Sivananda psycho-Yoga Research Ashram was established in 1985 and registered as “Institute of Yoga and Holistic Medical Sciences” in 2001 (No:K-679/01) ,under scientific and cultural charitable trust Act 1955, for research, treatment, propaganda and training in yoga and other holistic Medical Sciences like Naturopathy, Acupressure, Traditional Ayurveda, Siddha, Herbal therapy, Music therapy, Counselling , Psychotherapy etc. The president of this institute is , Yogacharya Sri C. Muraleedharan Koloth, who has more than 30 years of experience in the field of yoga and other holistic medical sciences. He is assisted by expert advisers and eminent faculties.
The institute is situated at the banks of a beautiful river called ”Muvattupuzha” which is 20 km from Kumarakom International tourist centre, 50 km from Alleppy, 70 km from Cochin international Airport , 70 km from Kodanadu Elephant Park and, 70 kms from Vagamon.
YOGAGRAM
As the name itself denotes, the Institute has a rural ambience with a yogic serenity. It has been built on the banks of a beautiful rivulet bordered with a canopy of coconut trees, in the ‘Gods Own Country’ of Kerala State, South India .The Institute is affiliated to the world-renowned Yoga Alliance International (YAI) of the United States of America and has been conducting various types of Yoga Courses suitable to the clients’ needs and aspirations.
The Institute is headed by Yogacharya MURALEEDHARAN KOLOTH, a man of impeccable credentials and integrity, who has more than four decades of dedicated professional experience in his chosen field.
After graduating in Humanities in 1986, Muraleedharan Koloth has taken a diploma in Magneto-Therapy & Acupressure in 1991. After taking his MD (AM) in 1993 and Yoga Siromani in 1996, he was awarded the coveted All India Nature Cure Federation Life Membership in 1996. He became a Master in Simplified Kundalini Yoga in 1996 and ND in 1997. He is also a Diploma holder in Siddha Medicine (DSM). His other Yoga qualifications and certifications are; Yoga Prashikshak(in 2000) and ,Yoga Siromani and Yoga Acharya from the prestigious International Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Ashram in 1996 and 2008 respectively . He is also certified to practice NLP (2009) and Transactional Analysis (2009).
Besides the exhaustive list of his above qualifications, he is also a man of varied interests; his post-graduate diplomas in Journalism & Public Relations (1987), and also in Marketing Management (1988) are ample testimony to this fact.
He started his career in Yoga at the young age of 15 and has been actively practicing and teaching Yoga since 1984. Simultaneously, he has been ardently pursuing the practice of nature cure therapy, magneto-therapy, and acupressure therapy etc.
Muraleedharan
According to Hindu mythology the name “ Muraleedharan”(bearer of the musical instrument flute) stands from one of the umpteen synonyms of lord Krishna ,who with the melodious music flowing out from his “murali” (flute) synchronized “sarvacharacharam”(all the animate and inanimate)
to the tune and rhythm of the entire universe ,likewise ,the person Muraleedharan is trying to emulate with his yoga teachings and practices to tune the mind and body of the individual to a higher level of consciousness with semlting peace and happiness .
Keeping this sublime awareness in mind he made a conscious effort to impart yoga practices to the very young , especially the primary classes children .He is one of the pioneers in inculcating this philosophy of catch them young to yoga ie, all the educational institutions in kerala .His team is presently conducting and supervising the yoga classes in government , aided , and private schools in different districts of the state of kerala .
Besides ,as a humanist ,he is keen to conduct free seminars ,symposia, workshops , discussions etc. etc. to the society at large ,through out the length and breath of the state to cultivate the philosophy of yoga to the young and old alike .His philosophy in life can be succinctly put as “loka samastha sukhino bhavanthu”(universal well being ).
Swami Sivananda saraswati
Swami Sivananda saraswati born at pattamadai (Tamil Nadu, India) in 1887. He served as an Allopathic Doctor in Malaya for a couple of years. Then he realized his hearts calling for knowing the spiritual truth. He set out his journey to the foothills of Himalaya to fulfil this calling. He settled in the sacred valley of Rishikesh and was initiated by swami “VishwanandaSaraswati” in 1924. He founded the “Devine Life society” in Rishikesh in 1936 and Yoga Vedanta Forest academy in the year 1948. He attained Maha Samadhi on 14th July 1963. According to him “We must serve, love ,give, purify, meditate ,be good, do good, be kind, be compassionate, bear insult, and bear injury.”
Swami Vishnu Devananda
Swami Vishnu Devananda was born in Kerala in 1927 in 1947 he came to Sivananda Ashram in Rishikesh .There he lived and worked with Swami Sivananda .He was appointed the first professor of hatha yoga at the Sivananda Yoga Vedantha Forest Academy . In 1957 Swami Vishnu Devananda was sent to the west by his words “peoples are waiting” . He founded several yoga centers in the united states then settled in Canada , where he established the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta head quarters in Montreal . His innovation in yoga instruction have reached millions though his yoga centre .He also committed to the cause of world peace and brother hood.
Swami Vivekananda
Swami Vivekananda Vivekananda was born on 12 January 1863.His life’s mission was to propagate the lofty teaching of the vedantha ,in the light of the realization of his master sri .Ramakrishna .Towards this end he lent all his energies and passed away before he was forty .It was felt that the philosophy of swamiji and the ideals for which he lived and worked could be a great sources of inspiration to the Indian youth . Swamiji was first and foremost , a man of the spirit , who had realized the ultimate truth .He was a patriot monk, quite out of the ordinary run of the patriots ; he was a social reformer , educationalist ,orator and he was blessed with a melodious voice which charmed his master.
